Z1_BACKBONE RULES
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is the "Zone 1 Backbone" conference, tag Z1_BACKBONE
This conference is moderated and coordinated by Jason Steck.
The Moderator can be reached by FidoNet Netmail at 1:285/424.
The intended purpose of this administrative echo is to provide a
centralized forum for discussion by its users of all matters relating
specifically to the Zone One Mail Backbone. This may include distribution,
routing, echoes carried, contents of FIDONET.NA/NO and FIDOSTAT.NA,
Backbone Operating Procedures, connections to the Backbone Hubs, and
Moderator requests for their echos be placed on that backbone. This echo
is available to all who have business with the Z1 Backbone.
To this end, the following rules shall govern the conduct of participants
in this echo. Follow them, and you probably will never hear from the
Moderator.
Conduct of participants.
1. Flaming of individuals, namecalling, personal insults, and all gutter
language is considered annoying and is strictly prohibited.
Disagreement of ideas is expected and allowed, but be civil with other
participants. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and at some point,
participants are expected to agree to disagree. The use of a "smiley"
in no way diminishes a flame. Take flames to netmail or an approriate
echo.
2. Commercial advertisements are not permitted. Take those to an
appropriate echo. In general messages advertising echos are considered
off topic, with the sole exception of echos whose moderators are
working to qualify for backbone status. During the time between making
the initial request for Backbone status and being finally placed on
FIDONET.NA, a moderator may post periodic messages advertising his echo
and soliciting help getting it on the Backbone. Some leeway will be
allowed in this area. Moderators of echos already on the Zone 1
Backbone or in private distribution with no plans to go on the Backbone
are to refrain from advertising their echos in Z1_BACKBONE.
3. Messages in this conference will be restricted to matters directly
related to the moving of echomail by the Zone One Mail Backbone.
Discussion of other mail distribution systems, or general echomail
policies and procedures is off topic.
4. Please do not use IBM-type "high ASCII" (>127) characters in messages
or origin lines; they tend to mess up some of the non-IBM systems that
use this echo.
5. Sysops participating must use their nodelisted name - aliases are not
permitted.
6. Participants are instructed to IGNORE off-topic and flame messages.
Please leave the moderating to the Moderator(s). Messages regarding
the moderation of this echo, or the actions of the Moderator, are to
be sent NETMAIL -- discussions on the moderation of the echo are
OFF-TOPIC for the echo itself. The position of Moderator in this echo
is not an elected position.
7. When quoting text in the process of replying to a message, please only
quote the part(s) necessary to convey the point to which you are
replying. Quoting messages in their entirety, including tear and
origin 'vanity' lines, runs up everyones phone bill and is not
necessary.
8. Each SysOp that receives this echo is responsible for any and all
traffic that originates from his/her system. Since moderators wishing
to discuss matters with the Backbone may be users or points, the Sysop
remains responsible for traffic originating from them.
9. Failure to comply with this conference policy will normally result in a
maximum of two warnings to the offending node or individual, be it a
public warning in the echo or a private warning via netmail. Repeated
offenses may result in your feed being severed. If in the judgement of
the Moderator it is necessary to sever a feed without warning, the
Moderator reserve the right to do so.
10. Should the Moderator feel that a thread has outlived its usefulness,
he may declare a particular subject off-topic, be it temporary or
permanent in order to to maintain order in this conference.
These rules may be posted to the echo by the Moderator as often as he
deems necessary. Use common sense, people, and we can all get along.
